Rose adds TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons to his bag

Published

on

Justin Rose posted a photo on Twitter today of the mixed set of TaylorMade’s soon-to-be-released Tour Preferred irons that he plans to use at the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa this week.

Rose won the 2013 U.S. Open using a set of TaylorMade’s RocketBladez Tour irons for his 3 through 6 irons, and the company’s original Tour Preferred MB irons in his 7 iron through PW. Click here to see photos of those clubs and the other equipment Rose has in the bag.

Rose’s new setup includes TaylorMade’s Tour Preferred CB irons for his 3, 4 and 5 irons, with his 6 iron, 7 iron, 8 iron and 9 iron being Tour Preferred MC irons. His pitching wedge is TaylorMade’s new MB model.

The change is significant because if Rose does put the irons into play tomorrow in South Africa, it means that he will have added a slotted 7 iron to his setup for the first time. And since the MC’s are cavity back irons, it would also add another name to the list of top players who have moved away from the muscleback irons that have been a mainstay in the professional game for decades.

I doubt that he chose the CB long irons because they are more forgiving. He tends to hit the ball a little on the low side, and my guess is that the trajectory was better with the CB.

I bet he plays the MBs. I doubt he will play the CBs. If so, only for a short time.

They look a lot like the Mp-59’s. At least from the top view.

Interesting that he’s playing even less MBs now. And as prior posters noted, this dude is a superb ball striker. Watching him hit is just a work of art. Let’s see if this change helps him win even more often!

Suprised he isn’t going mc mb combo. The cb seem odd in a pro bag

Interesting…those CBs look pretty big for a Pro bag. I can see a 2 or 3 iron but surprised by the 4 and especially the 5. Rose is considered a pretty superb ball striker as well.

Have you seen the top view of the CB next to the MC? Not that much different. Shape of the cavity is also very similar.

Am I seeing two 5 irons in this picture? Looks like he has a 5 cb and a 5 mc…

Yeah, he’s either testing the 5 CB vs. the 5 MC or that MC above the 8-iron has a 5 on the bottom that looks like a 6.

He confirmed on his twitter that he will be playing 3-5 CB, 6-9 MC and a MB PW

So he satisfies his sponsor by playing all three new iron offerings in one mixed bag. The question is, “How long do they stay in the bag?” Through the silly season? Through the Hawaii swing? Until TMag releases its next new iron?

There is only one 5 iron, its 3-5 CB, 6-9MC, PW MB

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
